In the 19th century, some Shakers sincerely believed that "their furniture was originally designed in heaven and that the patterns had been transmitted to them by angels". The arched legs are perfectly dovetailed into the tapered base, like the originals. The top is fastened to the pedestal by rectangular cleat. All clear maple. New Lebanon Candle Stand Our classic tripod stand, with arched or "spider" legs, was made at the New Lebanon, New York community circa 1830-40. The arched legs are precisely dovetailed into the gracefully turned pedestal. Now available in solid cherry like the original. Supplied with Oil finish. Height 25¼". Top 18". 	TWO-DRAWER SEWING STAND Stands with drawers were special conveniences in Shaker sewing shops. The drawers slide in both directions for easy access from both front and back and are roomy enough to hold all of the little things one might need along side a rocker, beside the sofa, or next to a bed.
