SIDE AND WORK TABLES


Enfield Night Table

What we call bedrooms, the Shakers called "retiring rooms". At the Great Stone Dwelling in the Enfield, N.H. Shaker community- where this piece originated- each retiring room accommodated as many as four Shakers. Aside from the beds, the rooms contained only a rocker, a table like this one, one or two candle stands, a hanging sconce, and perhaps a mirror. The design of this piece is typical of the refined work of the Enfield Shakers. Clear hard maple, with drawer interior of pine.

Enfield Side Table

The crisply turned legs and the generous overhang of the top indicate that this piece was made at Enfield, N.H. Shaker community. The present owners of the original use it as a side table in their living room. It would also function well as a front hall table and as a serving table in the dining room or kitchen. As a bedside stand, its large surface will hold a lamp, clock, telephone, books, etc. With ease. Made of hard maple, with drawer interior of pine.

Two Drawer Work Table

In 1839, as many as a dozen cabinetmakers were at work completing the dwelling at the Enfield, N.H community. This distinctive work table could have been made by one of them. The nicely proportioned legs, carefully fitted drawers and generous top are all typical of Enfield Shaker Brothers' craftsmanship. Made of clear Maple with drawer interiors of pine. Drawers each measure 17¼" x 13½" x 3½" deep. Height to top of table is 30".

Height to bottom edge of apron is 23¼ ".

Top measures 50¾" x 20".

Sabbathday Lake Tailoring Counter

Some of the most wonderful pieces of Shaker furniture are characterized by the delightful asymmetry seen in the drawer arrangement of this tailoring counter from the Sabbathday Lake, Maine community, which dates from about 1840.Made of clear maple with drawer interiors of pine.
Height 34½". Top measures 66" x 21".

Harvard Side Table


This elegant table was originally made at the Shaker community in Harvard, Massachusetts about 1840. Trestle legs, unencumbered by a stretcher and an under slung drawer allow it to serve as a sewing stand or writing desk, as well as a bedside or occasional table. Clear cherry, with drawer interior of pine. Supplied with Oil Finish.

Height 27¼". Top measures 28¾" X 17½".
