Kilkee Summer Holiday 2008

The 2008 Naas SAC annual diving holiday was to Kilkee, Co. Clare. Seventeen members of the club travelled, some for the whole week & more just for a few days. All were rewarded with some great diving off this west coast diving Mecca. Kilkee5(s).jpg

Two of the club RIBS & the two MCH 16 compressors were brought down early on the Saturday morning ready for action on the Sunday. Liam Staunton, our Diving Officer kicked of the week on Sunday morning with a dive on Middle Rock followed in the afternoon with a dive on Biraghty Mor. Most of the dive sites like Middle Rock & Outer Rock are very short 10 minute boat trip from the pier. We met at 10am each morning & were finished our two dives at 5.30pm each evening, all cylinders were filled by 7.30pm. This left plenty of time for going out for the evening for those who had the energy after the days diving.
The wind was moving from South West to North West force 4 until Wednesday which left it a little uncomfortable while kitting up on the boat but it went easterly on Thursday & Friday to make way for perfect diving conditions.
We completed a total of eleven dives throughout the week, two per day with the half day on the Tuesday for the barbeque. Typical dive log for the week is as follows:

The annual Kilkee holiday barbeque was hosted once again by Eamon & Mairead Russell on Tuesday evening in Kilbaha with Barry O’Sullivan taking care of the cooking & what a feast it was! Even the sun graced us with its presents & a great evening was had by all. This was followed by a trip to the local pub in Kilbaha for more refreshments. This went on until the late hours with some club members entertaining us with some “singing” & I use this word loosely  There were several “One for the road” before we eventually headed back to Kilkee. Needless to say there were very few “singers” diving on Wednesday morning!
Special thanks to Eamon, Mairead, Barry & Dianne for all their work making the barbeque such a great evening for all.

The week ran very smoothly with everyone pulling their weight & being punctual, all credit to our DO Liam Staunton for organizing our weeks holiday. The holiday was finished off with dinner out in The Strand Restaurant on the sea front on the Friday evening, a nice ending to a great weeks diving in Kilkee.
