Carraroe - St. Patrick's Weekend

The 2008 dive season started in Carraroe, Co. Galway on the St. Patrick’s weekend for the members of Naas SAC. The 24 member crew descended on the Galway Irish speaking village for the first diving weekend of the season which is dedicated to getting shallow trainee dives completed. It is also a great opportunity for the more experienced members to get dived up, get back into the swing of things & make sure all their equipment is in good working order after the winter lay off.

The Coral Beach, Carraroe proofed to be the ideal location for this errand with 6 – 7 meter depth range & the weather also co operating to provide us with good diving conditions for this time of year. Visibility was 2-3 meters on the Saturday but improved to 4-5 meters on the Monday morning when we completed the last of the 5 x trainee dives.

A social dinner out was enjoyed by all in the Chinese Restaurant in Carraroe on the Saturday evening and  then retiring to An Cistin pub for beverages, music  & craic. We also celebrated a couple of birthdays – Rosemary celebrated her 40th & I celebrated my 40th + the Vat (High Rate)! J. Thank to all for going to the trouble of getting birthday cakes, cards etc. it was appreciated.

Diving Officer, Liam Staunton had obviously done his homework on this weekend as everything ran according to plan with happy enthusiastic trainees going home on Monday.  A great weekend was had by all & this is hopefully just a taste of what’s to come for the rest of the 2008 dive season.
