Athy's 2.7M funding for town centre regeneration

Emily Square/ Shackleton Museum upgrade & redevelopment

Athy has been chosen as one of 66 local towns and villages to benefit from funding in the latest allocation under the Government's Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

Minister Michael Ring, TD yesterday approved an allocation of €2,707,500 for the town's Emily Square and Ernest Shackleton Museum projects. According to the Department  Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development the Athy project will deliver a comprehensive upgrade of Emily Square in the centre of Athy, while the Athy Heritage Centre Museum (located in former Town Hall) will become the Ernest Shackleton Museum, leveraging tourism potential and benefiting the community. 

The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund aims to revitalise rural Ireland by supporting self-sustaining projects in towns and villages with a population of less than 10,000.
