Leinster Trophy to be contested by Formula Ford

The headline event at this weekend's Leinster Trophy Races at Mondello Park

The resurgent Formula Ford Championship will return to being the headline event at this weekend’s Leinster Trophy Races at Mondello Park, having last raced for the prestigious trophy in 2008 when it was won by Robert Barrable.

The Leinster Motor Club will be in charge for two days of action on the Mondello Park International Circuit, with most of the Irish Motor Racing championships set to be decided. All eyes on Sunday however will be on the non-championship Leinster Trophy race, which will be contested by the championship regulars and some additional guest drivers.

Prior to the Leinster Trophy Race the Formula Ford drivers will have two national championship rounds to complete. These will be run on Saturday and they will double up as the final rounds of the new for 2014, Champion of Mondello series, which will crown its first champion at the event.

A number of other classes will join the Formula Ford series in racing on both days and these will include the Patch Fiesta Championship and Crowne Plaza Dundalk Formula Vee series which will both have a qualifying race and final on each day. A combined grid of Stryker and Global Lights sportscars, the BOSS Ireland series and Formula Sheane; will all be in action on both days, while the junior drivers of the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship will race on Saturday only.

Joining in the action on Sunday will be the Yokohama Irish Touring Car Championship, Mondello Park GT Cars and two Historic racing classes. The ITCC will race twice as will the GT's while the Historic racers will be on track three times, twice for the more modern HRCA cars and once for the older pre '55 racers who make a rare championship appearance at Mondello Park.

A total of twenty seven races will be contested over the two days with sixteen scheduled for Sunday. Mondello.TV will be on hand once again to broadcast the event to the world via the internet, and the final TV schedule will be published on the Mondello.TV web site closer to the event. A provisional event timetable is available on the Mondello Park web site, www.mondellopark.ie.

Admission for either day of the event is just €12.50 with under sixteens admitted free of charge and all admission includes a complimentary event programme.
