The Curragh Racecourse is delighted to announce that the Tattersalls Gold Cup will be worth 300,000 euro in total prize money when the Group One contest is staged on Sunday 28th May this year.   The race was worth 250,000 euro in 2016 when Fascinating Rock beat Found to land the prestigious contact over 10 furlongs.

Derek McGrath, CEO of the Curragh Racecourse commented:
“We are very grateful to Tattersalls for their continued commitment to the Curragh and the boost in prize money will ensure we maximise the opportunity to attract the top middle distance horses in Europe”

First run as the Ballymoss Stakes in 1962, the race has been sponsored by Tattersalls since 1985. Previous winners of the race include So You Think, Al Kazeem, Fame and Glory, Fantastic Light, Montjeu, Daylami, Hurricane Run and Golden Fleece.

Edmond Mahony, Chairman of Tattersalls commented:
“Based on official ratings, the Tattersalls Gold Cup was the second best flat race run in Ireland last year and the €50,000 increase in prize money reflects the global stature of the race. Tattersalls Irish Guineas weekend is amongst the highlights of the European racing calendar and we are proud to have been sponsoring the Tattersalls Gold Cup for more than 30 years.”

The magnificent Tattersalls Rogers Perpetual Gold Cup is presented to the winning owner each year.

The first entry stage for the Group 1 contest closes Wednesday 22nd March.

Tattersalls also sponsor the Tattersalls Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas taking place on the same weekend.
