Employment Grant Information

What is the Employment Grant?

An employment grant is paid in two parts.

The first half of the grant is paid when the person is taken and registered for P.R.S.I.

The second half of the grant is payable six months later, if the person is still in employment. Employers will be required to show that the employee has been registered and is being returned for income tax and tax deduction card is available for inspection.

Employment grant is a maximum grant of £5,000 per employee, subject to a maximum of £50,000 (10 employees x £5000).

The maximum grant will only be paid in exceptional circumstances and will normally be at a lower rate. The employment grant may also apply to a person starting up his/her business.

To claim an employment grant, the promoter must submit to the Enterprise Board the name of the person to be employed, their R.S.I. number and the date on which they commenced employment

For the second instalment of the employment grant the employer must show that the relevant tax and P.R.S.I. deductions for the employee have been made and all conditions of grant aid have been fulfilled.

How is my grant application assessed?

Each application is assessed by a five person Evaluation Committee, comprising of people from different backgrounds.

The committee give their recommendation and the project then goes to the Board for their assessment. The Board then either recommend of refuse the project for grant aid.

Any other relevant information?

Further information or clarification of any of the information submitted may be sought at any time during the examination of the proposal. In respect of buildings, details of the nature of the tenure, planning permission and compliance with building controls, should be furnished with the applications.

A Business Plan must be furnished with all applications for grant assistance of £5,000 or more and may be required in other instances.

If your company is already in existence between one and three years, please submit copy of accounts. If operating three years or more, please submit audited accounts for the last three financial years.

The Board reserves the right to discuss the proposal with other relevant agencies or bodies to ensure effective and efficient use of agency services and public funds.

Confidentiality of the proposal will be respected at all times.

Projects approved by the Board will be subject to conditions, which must be fully complied with before payment can be made.
