Capital Grant Information

How does a capital grant work?

Capital grant can be made available to purchase equipment, the purchase of a site or building, mobile assets, or second hand machinery; working capital, or professional services or primary agricultural production is not grant-aidable. A maximum of 50% of the cost of capital and other investment or £50,000, whichever is the lesser, is payable.

Is any grant aid available for tourism?

There is some grant aid available for tourism projects. Accommodation can be grant aided at up to 25% of the cost. However this grant aid must be tied to an overall tourism package including providing extra facilities.

All projects for grant aid in the tourism area must be approved by the Midlands East Regional Tourism Organisation (M.E R.T O.).

The Board’s Enterprise Plan has Identified a number of priority areas for grant aid.

Under an operating agreement with the Leader II Company, tourism projects will generally be referred to that body for determination.

How do I go about making an application?

A grant application can be made by filling a grant application form and sending it into the Enterprise Board. Having received the application, someone from the Enterprise Board will contact the promoter to discuss the application further. Projects may only commence after formal approval by the Board. Projects which have started prior to approval will not be funded.

If I find it difficult to fill the form can you assist me?

The Enterprise Board staff are more than willing to help promoters to complete their application form.

If I am just at the Ideas stage still can I discuss it with the Enterprise Board?

Likewise, anyone with a business idea, regardless of what stage they are at, can discuss it with the Enterprise Board. If the idea/project is then thought to be suitable for grant aid from the Enterprise Board, an application can be made and proceeded with. If not, the Enterprise Board may direct the person to some other agency /body who can provide assistance.

Can I be guaranteed that my ideas will be kept confidential?

Any discussion which the Enterprise Board has with potential Promoters is in the strictest confidence.

Projects will be examined by the Evaluation Committee, who will make a recommendation to the Enterprise Board.

What do I have to do to get paid if my grant application is successful?

All grant aid is subjected to Board approval and conditions are attracted to same. If a capital study grant has been approved the promoter will be paid his/her grant as soon as the Enterprise Board receives evidence of invoiced expenditure, receipted as paid.

In the case of larger grants, an authorised certificate certifying that expenditure has been expended and paid, must be submitted to the Board.

Auditors' certs may also be required in other cases in addition to other technical certificates. Evidence of compliance with Planning and the Building Control code may also be required. The promoter will be required to insure the assets and indemnify the Board.

How is my grant application assessed?

Each application is assessed by a five person Evaluation Committee, comprised of people from different backgrounds.

The Committee give their recommendation and the project then goes to the Board for their assessment. The Board then either recommend or refuse the project for grant aid.

Any other relevant information?

Further information or clarification of any of the information submitted may be sought at any time during the examination of the proposal. In respect of buildings, details of the nature of the tenure, planning permission, and compliance with building controls, should be furnished with the application.
