About Donadea Local History Group
Donadea History group was founded in 1991. In the early
years we held regular meetings and on occasions invited
guest speakers. Due to a lack of a suitable premises we
are unable to continue this practise. The aim of the group
was the preservation of antiquities in the area, recording
the past, transcribing headstones in disused burial grounds
etc.
To date our group has published three books on local history.
The first book, (OUGHTERANY VOL.1 BOOK 1) was launched in
Connollys, Ballagh by Minister Charlie McCreevy T.D. This
volume was edited by Noel Reid with contributions from Richard
Aylmer, Seamus Cullen, Kevin Lynch, Des O Leary, Sean Lynch,
Patrick O Keeffe, and Noel Reid.
Our second publication (OUGHTERANY VOL,1 BOOK 2) was launched
in O Keeffes lounge Kilcock, on 29th Sep. 1995 by Bernard
Durkin T. D. Noel Reid was again the editor and the contributors
included Tadgh O Keeffe, Seamus Cullen, Noel Reid, Des O
Leary, Robert Stewart, Kevin Lynch, Bernadette Gilligan,
Martin Kelly, Sean Lynch, and tSR Fionntan. Noel Reid died
in December 1997 and Seamus Cullen, Hermann Geissel, and
Des O Leary edited our next publication (OUGHTERANY VOL.
2 BOOK 1). The book was launched on 18th June 1999 in Dowlings
lounge Prosperous by well-known author and journalist Padraic
O Farrell.
This volume included contributions from Des O Leary, Noel
Reid, Seamus Cullen, Niall Brady, Hermann Geissel, Richard
Aylmer, Karina Holton, Kevin Lynch, Thaddeaus Breen, Noel
Murphy and Tony Mc Evoy. The group are at present looking
for articles for our fourth publication.
