From our Athy correspondent.
A meeting of the inhabitants of the town of Athy, was held in the Courthouse on Wednesday last, for the purpose of taking into consideration the distressed state of the poor, and to adopt means to alleviate their wants. It was resolved -
That a Subscription be immediately entered into and a committee appointed to carry the same into effect.
That Mr. Molloy be requested to act as Treasurer, and Mr. Connolly as secretary. That the Secretary do apply to the non-resident landed proprietors of the town and neighbourhood for their co-operation.
That an application be also made to the Managers of the Athy Loan Fund for a donation in aid of this charity.
That collectors be appointed, who shall be also select such objects as they consider most deserving of immediate relief.
That the committee do meet again on Friday, at Ten O’clock a.m. to receive such contributions as shall be collected up to that time, and to adopt the necessary means of affording immediate relief.
