LEIXLIP HERITAGE WEEK TALK

A note from John Colgan:

I giving a talk in Leixlip Library during Heritage Week on Thursday, 28th August next at 8pm.

The theme is Newtown, Leixlip, Co Kildare: its Houses and Residents.

It will a power point presentation of 40 slides of maps, houses, persons and other places in the Newtown and adjoining area, eg, Sileachan Valley, and will last about one hour.

I am pleased to say that Councillor Colm Purcell, Cathaoirleach of Leixlip Town Council, will attend and I will be presenting him with a large pen-and-ink sketch of Caesar Otway (1780-1842), done by Janet Colgan, for hanging in Newtown House, Otway's residence whilst he was curate in St Mary's, Leixlip for 17 years (including his time in Lucan).  Otway wrote several travel books and jointly founded the Dublin Penny Journal, which also features articles on Leixlip.

You will be very welcome to attend; attentive children won't balk at it!
