THE GORDON-BENNETT RACE.
SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT AT CARLOW.

The Right Hon. Henry Bruen, P.C., has suggested an improvement in an extension of the Carlow control of about 150 yards outside the limits of the Urban District as fixed by the Local Government Board’s recent order. Mr. Bruen points out that the regulations affecting the use of the public roads on the day of the motor race will practically cut off from communication with the outer world the inhabitants of a district extending from the boundary of the town of Carlow for three or four miles to the north, and bounded on the one side by the road from Carlow to Castledermott, and on the other side from Carlow to Athy. Mr. Bruen thinks the whole of the consequent inconvenience would be avoided without the least additional danger to the public or motorists if the portion of the road between Carlow Borough boundary at the Railway Bridge and the point where the new road turns off to Castledermott – a distance of 150 yards – were excluded from Schedule A and included in Schedule B. This would render possible an access by the old Dublin road, and through Oak Park demesne to Evington New Garden, Jerusalem, Gotham, Ballaghmoon, etc. otherwise inaccessible from Carlow. This portion of the roadway is under the jurisdiction of the Carlow County Council. Without their approval and assistance it would be useless to approach the Local Government Board for the purpose of obtaining an amendment of the Order.

CARLOW COUNTY COUNCIL.
THE MOTOR RACE.

A meeting of the above was held on Thursday in connection with the Motor race. Mr. J. Hammond M.P., presided. Also present – Messrs. C. J. Engledow, J.P., M. Governey, J. Whelan, P. J. Byrne, and P. Kinsella.

A resolution dealing with the Race received from the Local Government Board was adopted.
Schedule B was amended by addition of the roads “and between the Urban District boundary at the Railway bridge and the three roads north thereof and between the District boundary at Briganza and Straw Hall Gate” to the description of the Co. Carlow portion included therein. Mr. Whelan proposed, and Mr. Governey seconded that a vote of thanks be passed to Mr. Bruen for his kindness in throwing open his demesne to the public on the day of the Motor Race. The resolution was carried.
