Over three tonnes of cast-away and dumped trash were collected on Saturday 21st March, 2009, by two gangs of about 45 tidytowners from Leixlip and Maynooth along the approach road to the two towns - a distance of ten kilometres of verges.  Volunteers worked about 2 to 3 hours each. Everything from television sets (2), which dumpers can easily leave, free of charge, at several electrical goods’ suppliers in the area, car batteries (~6), which can be left at Newtown House, Leixlip and elsewhere; used tyres; domestic rubbish; oil filters belonging to trucks and a load of discarded school- and other books, which could have been disposed of in the free recycling bins available from all bin suppliers, were gathered.

Kildare County Council’s Environmental Services’ crews removed the spoil to their tiphead.

Carton House Hotel kindly provided a mobile hot tea and coffee dispensing vehicle. Tesco Maynooth made a cash donation towards other refreshments.
