Mill Lane to Silleachain Lane
Mill Lane is primarily residential in use. The
buildings from the E.S.B. shop to the junction
at the fire station are single-storey dwelling
set back off the road with well maintained gardens.
The buildings on the south side of
Mill Lane vary in scale, from single-storey cottages
to three-storey dwellings.
P The nature
of the activity of the Hire-All shop results in
a very cluttered pavement and road area immediately
outside the shop. There is also an excessive number
of advertisements on the façade of the
building,
which are visually obtrusive. The owner should
be encouraged to remove excessive signage and
to reduce the blockage of public access outside
the shop.
The corner in front of the Fire Station is quite
wide and not in keeping with the scale of the
streetscape. Planting of trees and shrubs on the
site of the Fire Station should be considered
.
P The entrances
to St. Catherines, the Liffey Valley House Hotel
and Silleachain Lane all generate public movement
within Mill Lane. As such, this area could be
identified as a nodal point within the town and
should be
considered worthy of special attention. The Gate
Lodge to the Liffey Valley House Hotel is an attractive
feature.
The beginning of Silleachain Lane could be developed
to mark an entrance to a parkland area, which
could be extended to encircle the town amenities.
The abattoir building and site may be suitable
for a business such as a
restaurant or coffee shop which would provide
a stop-off point along the route.
