Wonderful Barn for town council HQ?

16 October 2003: The Wonderful Barn in Leixlip is to be given to Kildare County Council or Leixlip Town Council as part of a plan that will see 30 acres of the 90-acre property surrounding the building being developed for housing.

The 260-year-old structure will form the centrepiece of a park area in the other 60 acres which will be developed for amenity and recreational use.

Proposed developments of the amenity site include a car park, a playground, and an orchard of native Irish apple trees.

Leixlip Town councillor Paul Kelly says the Wonderful Barn would be an ‘deal base’ for the council, and it could also be adapted to provide gallery and exhibition space, craft workshops and a tourist venue.

An Area Action Plan for the site is currently on public display until Wednesday 22 October.
