Bracken family criticises councillors

05 July 2003: I read with dismay and shock your news report on the council meeting with regards to Naas Town Council AGM. My brother and sisters and I are sitting here by our phones over 3,000 miles away waiting on news of our Dad and all some of the councillors can think about is their AGM.

My mother has put 23 years into Naas Town Council and to ask that one meeting in that 23 years be postponed, is not a lot to ask. The last two weeks has been a very stressful and worrying one for both family in Ireland, and in Canada and to read your article just blew me away.

My Mother was on vacation with my Dad but it turned out to a very difficult and trying time for them both with my Dad in a Portuguese hospital and my Mom in a nearby hotel. Do these people think this was an enjoyable time for them? They have no idea what my parents or my siblings went through this past two weeks. I only hope none of them have to go through what we have gone through.

So I would suggest that one AGM is not as important as a person’s life and especially, when that person is a Father to nine children, a Grandfather to 18 grand children and a Great Grandfather to one great grand-daughter.

In my books his life is much more important than one Town Council AGM.

Yours Truly

Trasa Bracken,
Toronto.
