Arrow capacity for major increase

16 April 2003: Peak hour capacity on the Kildare Arrow Route will increase by 130 per cent by the end of 2003 following the completion of s number of ongoing works.

These include platform lengthening at Hazelhatch and Sallins Stations to accommodate 8-carriage trains, the provision of turnback facility at Newbridge Station, deployment of additional new diesel railcars, and increasing the number of platforms at Heuston Station from five to nine.

Iarnroid Eireann is currently taking delivery of 80 new diesel railcars all of which will be in service by the end of the year. Some of these will be used on the Dublin to Kildare service.

The works at Hazelhatch and Sallins stations, and at Newbridge station, will all be completed by year-end.
