Dangerous junction to be improved

LEIXLIP, 28 January 2002: by Brian Byrne. Urgent safety measures to reduce accidents at the junction of Old Hill/Celbridge Road, Leixlip have been approved by the Leixlip Area Committee.

The junction is a sharp corner, with a poorly defined edge to the road, and there have been numerous accidents there.  "Scoil Cearbhall uí Dhálaigh has been hit a couple of times in the past year, while the garden wall of a house has been hit half a dozen times in the last few months alone," says local councillor Paul Kelly, whose motion was approved at the meeting.

Kildare County Council is planning to put in extra reflective markings, renew the road linings, and do some work to define the kerb, but Cllr Kelly wants more active traffic calming measures.

"We have a busy school, an entrance to the Church, a popular pedestrian route, and a number of houses all very close to this corner. I will be watching carefully to see how the new measures work, and I won’t hesitate to raise this again if I feel more is needed."
