Call for planning fee refunds

KILDARE GENERAL 14 February 2003: Deputy Emmet Stagg has called on the Government to immediately abolish the E20 planning fee required to object to planning applications, following a European Commission decision that it is contrary to EU law.

The European Commission issued a Reasoned Opinion which states that the charge is not legal under European law and giving Ireland two months to comply or proceedings will be taken against Ireland in the European Court of Justice by the Commission.

Deputy Stagg also wants the Government to state that they will refund all fees paid to date by individuals who made objections.
