Over £3m in sports grants for County Kildare

KILDARE GENERAL: 8 June 2001: by Trish Whelan. Some 38 sports grants for County Kildare totalling over £3m have been announced by Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy TD.

This year’s allocation is the largest ever single allocation for sporting and community facilities. They afford special priority to the development of sports and recreational facilities in designated disadvantaged areas.

The Minister said the level of commitment to sport which is shown throughout the country by people who give their own time voluntarily should be rewarded. In areas such as Kildare, this year’s allocation will go some way towards acknowledging the importance of sport in this area, he said.
