Scholarship success for students from CBS Naas
NAAS, 14 September: by Bill Trapman. Two Leaving Cert students from CBS Naas have won scholarships to third level on the results of their exams.
Alan Dunne, of Esmondale, Naas, was awarded a scholarship from the Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholarship Trust. Cormac McCarthy, of the Paddocks Naas was granted a scholarship from the Royal College of Surgeons.
Alan is the second student from CBS Naas to be awarded a scholarship from the Bank of Ireland Millennium Trust. Last years successful applicant, Jonathan Tumpane, is currently studying Science at Trinity College. The Trust, which is now in its second year had over six hundred applicants.
Alan successfully negotiated a strict selection process which included a detailed written application and an interview. The scholarship will provide Alan with a private mentor and an annual bursary of up to £5,000 when he commences his studies at NCAD in October.
Alan is very grateful for the help and encouragement he received with his application from his teacher Ms. Yvonne Keegan and the schools Vice-Principal, Liam McManus.
Cormac, who received 590 points in his Leaving Certificate Examination, was awarded a scholarship to the College of Surgeons based on his outstanding results. Cormacs scholarship, which is one of only eight awarded annually, includes payment of all fees and a bursary of £1,000 per year.
The Principal of CBS Naas, Noel Merrick, said he was delighted with the news.
