KCC scholarship for disabled

KILDARE GENERAL 29 January 2003: A scholarship is to be provided by Kildare County Council to allow a disabled person to study at Maynooth University.

The idea was put forward by Cllr Senan Griffin and Senator Jack Wall and agreed by a full Council on Monday.

The scholarship will take effect from next September.

The two councillors reminded the meeting that 2003 is the Year of the Disabled and the Council should play its part in helping a disabled person gain a third level education.

“We give a lot of lip service instead of doing something positive and this is a step in the right direction,” Cllr Griffin said. Senator Wall added: “It’s imperative they be given an opportunity to further their education.”
