Blaze destroys part of old meat plant

SALLINS, 26 June 2001: by Brian Byrne. A building under demolition in Sallins was destroyed by fire yesterday in a blaze thought to have been started while steel was being cut.

Two sections of Naas Fire Brigade dealt with the blaze at the former meat plant in the centre of Sallins Village. Dense black smoke from the fire could be seen from as far away as Kildare.

Firemen using breathing apparatus took two hours to bring the blaze under control. Nobody was reported hurt.
