'Safe surfing' tips for young people

NAAS, 17 August 2002: by Brian Byrne. The National Youth Federation recently published "SAFE SURFING" – tips for safe internet use for young people and those who work with them. Naas Youth Information Centre has copies of these leaflets and posters, available free of charge.

A reference copy, of the recently published "Safe Surfing: Guidelines for Safe Internet Use for Young People and those who work with them" is also available for public consultation.

The Guidelines cover a range of relevant issues including: Online Safety Measures/Tools; Responsibilities of Internet Service Providers; How to Check Internet Resources Accessed by a Computer; General Safety Principles.

They also include useful resource appendices dealing with: Monitoring & Filtering Tools; Information; Education & Advice Sources; Lists of Irish Internet Service Providers; and Health & Safety Legislation regarding the use of VDU's.
