Paper recycling in Leixlip

LEIXLIP, 24 September: by Brian Byrne. Newspaper and magazine recycling bins have been put in place at Newtown House in Leixlip and can be accessed during normal office hours. Extended opening times to 8pm are available on Mondays and Thursdays.

The move has been welcomed by local councillor Paul Kelly, who has urged everybody to take advantage of the system to 'make a difference' in waste management.

"For many families, a week's supply of newspapers and magazines adds up to a lot of waste, and with landfill costs in Kildare nearing £60 per ton, we can actually save ourselves money as well," he says. "Why not get together with your neighbours to collect papers and magazines each week to send for recycling? Businesses too can play a part by arranging for staff to bring their papers in to work for delivery up to Newtown House. A box in the corner, which can be dropped up when it gets full is all that’s needed, and we can take it in turns to bring it up."

Cllr Kelly also welcomed the recent confirmation that a levy on plastic bags will be in place from next February.
