Join Narraghmore Pipe Band and see the world

KILDARE, 3 September: by Martin Dempsey. Young people (and the not-so-young) in Co Kildare and surrounding areas will have an opportunity on Tuesday 11 September to join Lord Edward's Own Narraghmore Pipe Band.

A Registration Night for beginners and existing players will be held in the Carmel Hall, Kildare at 8pm. Anyone interested in learning piping or drumming as a beginner or anyone who has had previous experience, is invited to attend.

As membership of the band is open to anyone interested in learning to play pipes and drums and its members and trainees are not charged tuition fees, it provides a social, cultural and recreational outlet for young people in the region, who would otherwise not have such an opportunity.

The band is a community based organisation and all its members give their time and services on a voluntary basis. It provides quality tuition and performances for the community which it serves.

Lord Edward's Own Pipe Band was founded in Narraghmore, Co Kildare in 1916. It is well known for it's participation in local and national events and in more recent years for it's international activities.

The band recently took part in Dúchas Chill Dara - Kildare International Folk Arts Festival and took 2nd place in Grade 3A and 3rd place in the Open Grade at the Leinster Pipe Band Championships in New Ross, Co Wexford.

The band took part in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow on 11 August and will travel to Cornwall to take part in the Lowender Peran Celtic Festival in October.

The band has represented Ireland at more international cultural events than any other similar group. The band is well known in international folk art circles and it's performances are always of a high professional artistic standard.

Some of the band's most notable overseas trips include participating in the New York St. Patrick's Day Parade; representing Ireland at Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany and at the EUROPEADE - European Folk Arts Festival, in Valencia, Spain. In addition to this, the band has participated in other festivals in Britain, France, Germany, Bulgaria, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Italy and Finland.
