Schoolteacher to replace Dardis

22 September 2003: Mick Deely, a schoolteacher from Langton Park, Newbridge, has been selected by the Progressive Democrats to replace Senator John Dardis on Kildare County Council.

Mick is principal of the Curragh Camp boys national school and is current chairman of the Droichead Nua branch of the Irish National Teachers Association.

First elected in 1991, Dardis was forced to resign under new regulations that prevent Senators and TDs from holding seats in the Oireachtas and County Councils at the same time.
