Cllr Kelly refutes 'misrepresentation' suggestion

KILDARE NORTH, 5 November: by Brian Byrne. Leixlip-based county councillor Paul Kelly has hit back at suggestions by Cllr Catherine Murphy that he ‘shamefully misrepresented’ the proceedings of a recent Area Committee meeting in relation to the Maynooth Development Plan.

And he has also restated his position that fellow councillor Emmet Stagg TD made allegations of ‘bribery and corruption’ at the last meeting of Kildare County Council. Remarks by Deputy Stagg led to the adjournment of the council meeting, which resumes this afternoon.

Cllr Kelly says is is ‘horrified’ and ‘shocked’ at the responses to his initial statement published as an Opinion on KNN. He says his integrity ‘has been called into question’ and he has to ‘make his position clear’.

The full text of Cllr Kelly’s latest statement is here.

ED’s NOTE: As the protagonists in this matter have substantially aired their respective views in statements in the past two weeks, we’re now closing correspondence on it on KNN. Further reports will only be related to any discussion which may come up at council meetings.
