Naas's 'Mr Greenfingers' is transforming neglected areas

NAAS, 10 July 2001: by Trish Whelan. If ever a man loved his job, it must surely be Naas’s ‘Mr Greenfingers’, Dermot O’Farrell, whose enthusiasm knows no bounds as he goes about his work as town gardener transforming neglected areas into blossoming works of art.

Just prior to its official opening, Dermot and the outdoor staff of Naas UDC, were busy preparing the area of Monread District Park used for the Park’s formal opening ceremony, putting in flowerbeds, seating and painting barriers at the entrance.

A Prosperous man, Dermot now lives in Clane. He took up the job as gardener with Naas UDC just twelve months ago having spent 15 years with the Parks Department of South Dublin County Council.

Plans for the park include the erection of a further 15 seats and 10 litter bins. These will go in close to the pathways and roads leading into the park within the next month or so.

“It’s a great amenity to have on your doorstep and we want to have it looking its best,” Dermot said with pride.
