Narraghmore Pipe Band flies the flags

NARRAGHMORE, 27 June 2001: by Bill Trapman. The Narraghmore Pipe Band will hold its Annual Flag Days on Friday 29 June, Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July. Members and helpers will be present at supermarkets, churches and other locations throughout Co Kildare over the three days.

Lord Edward's Own Narraghmore Pipe Band recently took part in the highly acclaimed Dublin St Patrick's Festival. The opening was held on Friday 18 May, having been postponed as a result of Foot & Mouth precautions.

The band were the centre piece of the opening ceremony on the river Liffey boardwalk. Samba drummers led transition year students from four different locations in the city to converge on the boardwalk for the official opening.

"Meet Me At The River" was the theme for the opening night and the performers were joined by an estimated 10,000 visitors and local people for a spectacular light show on the river.

The band appreciates the support it receives each year from the general public, which helps it continue the work started in 1916. The band is currently recruiting new members for classes commencing in September.

Narraghmore Pipe Band will once again take part in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow on 11 August and will travel to Cornwall to take part in the Lowender Peran Celtic Festival in October.
