NARRAGHMORE, 17 June 2002: by Martin Dempsey. Lord Edward's Own, Narraghmore Pipe Band has continued its winning form by taking first place in its grade at the Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Dumbarton, Scotland.

This was the band's second major victory in a week, having previously won its grade at the Malahide Piping & Drumming Festival. The band was upgraded to Grade 3A as a result of winning the European and World Championships in Grade 3B in 1999.

Their were 125 entries in the contest, 21 of which were in Grade 3A, including bands from Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Lord Edward's Own has a full competitive programme ahead of it in the coming months including the British Championships in Ayr on 27 July, the World Championships in Glasgow on 10 August and the Ulster Championships in Derry on 24 August.

The band has recently purchased a new set of Andante drums for their 10 strong drum corps and are seeking sponsorship from local and national businesses.

The band's annual flag days are on Friday 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June, when members will collect outside supermarkets, churches and in bars throughout Co Kildare.

The band is currently planning a piping and drumming event, which it is hoped will take place later in the year in Kildare Town.

Anyone interested in registering for the limited number of places still available in its piping and drumming beginners classes, starting in September should contact the band immediately.
