VdeP work praised

NAAS, 5 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. The work that St Vincent de Paul do in Naas came in for special praise when a delegation from the organisation made a presentation recently to Naas UDC.

UDC chairman Cllr Willie Callaghan asked that no personal details of cases be given during the presentation.

St V de P president Jim O’Reilly gave a summary of the work they do in the town in a bid for funding to help with a number of projects.

Cllr Callaghan invited the delegation to apply to the Council for funding on a yearly basis, as other groups do. Saying it was impossible to write a cheque there and then, he asked the representatives to submit their outgoings for the year 2001.

Cllr Pat McCarthy said most of its funding comes from voluntary subscriptions and the Council should stretch its budget to the limit to help.

According to Mr O’Reilly, the organisation has no immediate requirement. He said it might be more appropriate to leave it until the end of January.

“I think we have started the foundation of a better relationship between us here tonight. We will certainly facilitate you,” Willie Callaghan told the trio.
