NAAS, 30 March 2002: by Brian Byrne. In what was a clear attempt to step back from their seriously embarrassing behaviour at previous meetings of Naas Town Council, two councillors tendered apologies at the adjourned March meeting last Tuesday night.
Though he had adamantly refused to do so at the March 12 meeting, Cllr Timmy Conway (left) finally apologised publicly to Cllr Mary Glennon for repeatedly saying she was telling lies during the February meeting.
And Cllr Seamie Moore (right), who - along with Cllr Conway - had continually interrupted Cllr Glennon while she was speaking on another motion at the March 12 meeting, admitted that he had uncharacteristically ignored calls to order from the chair.
In a statement that he wished to place on the record, which was in parts somewhat abstruse, he offered his apologies to the chair, to the members who were offended, and to the officials and the public. He also asked for 'a more understanding media to give more profile to the message overload and achievements of the Council as has been given to the different diversities.
For her part, Cllr Glennon (left) accepted Cllr Conways apology, but she expressed confusion about part of Cllr Moores statement, which she said didnt make any sense to me at all. She also withdrew a comment she had made during an adjournment of the March 12 meeting, when she had called Cllr Conway an obnoxious little twit.
Cllr Glennon said there is a very wide chasm in Naas Town Council that needed to be repaired, and described the proceedings of the council as often being more like a doghouse than a dignified meeting of elected representatives.
She said she was prepared to pull her weight with the council, but the other members should remember it had to be a nine-way thing.
