Relief road plans on display for public

The point at Chadwicks' entrance at Jigginstown where it is proposed the new Western Ring Road will exit onto the Newbridge Road.

NAAS, 5 September: by Trish Whelan. A new 1.5km stretch of the Naas Western Ring Road will link the Newbridge and Kilcullen roads with the Craddockstown road.

The £2.1m road will exit the Newbridge Road at a point between Chadwick’s Builders’ Providers and Jigginstown Castle, and will exit onto the Kilcullen Road between Dr Purcell’s house and Esmondale Estate.

Plans include a junction with traffic lights at the intersection of the new alignment and the Newbridge Road, and a roundabout at the intersection of the new road and the Kilcullen Road.

A simple priority junction is planned at the intersected Rathasker Road south of the new alignment.

The Rathasker Road from Naas town will cul-de-sac where it meets the new road, with access restricted to pedestrians and cyclists.

The new single carriageway will be 10m wide, and will have 1.5m wide road cycle paths, footpaths and verges on both sides.

Plans are on public display at Naas UDC offices, Naas Library and in the Road Design Office of Kildare County Council.

Submissions or observations should be made in writing before 12 noon on 4 October 2001 and headed ‘Naas Western Ring Road, Newbridge Road - Kilcullen Road’.

Other ring roads include the Naas Inner Relief Road liking the Dublin Road with the Tipper Road, and a road linking Newbridge Road with the Caragh Road through Jigginstown Park/Green, and across a new bridge to be built over the canal.
