Councillors' abstentions win Lakelands parking vote

NAAS, 25 June 2002: by Brian Byrne. Relief for residents of Lakelands and the Sycamores estates in Naas which are used for free parking by non residents is coming closer following the carrying of two motions at Naas Town Council last week.

But three councillors - Willie Callaghan, Pat O’Reilly, and Seamie Moore - abstained in the vote after officials tried to have the matter deferred until after the hospital extension was opened in September.

Those who voted in favour of the motions - put down by Cllrs Timmy Conway and Pat McCarthy - were Cllrs Conway, Anthony Egan and Charlie Byrne.

Cllrs McCarthy and Mary Glennon were unavoidably absent from the meeting, and Cllr Egan raised Cllr McCarthy’s motion in his absence. The motions were seconded by Cllr Byrne.
