Naas officials to 'balance up' pay parking

28 January 2004: Plans to balance up pay parking charges in areas of Naas by Naas Town Council officials will come before councillors next month.

Officials want an increase in the charge in certain areas while bringing new ones into the pay to park net.

Town engineer John McGowan outlined additional areas to be included in Pay Parking and the proposed increases in charges.

Under the plan, pay parking is to be extended out the Dublin Road past Railway Terrace, and additional spaces at €1 an hour have been provided. One hour parking will be in place from Murtagh’s Corner to Railway Terrace at the current €1 an hour fee.

Another areas to be included are the Kilcullen Road past St Conleth’s Place, the new car park on Fair Green at the old Fire Station, and parking spaces down the hill from Swan’s supermarket on the Ballymore Road.

A time limit for parking is also planned for spaces in front of Lakelands and at the lakes.

Officials propose to increase the charge on high occupancy areas of Friary Road and the Sallins Road from 50c to 70c an hour, or €2 for 3 hours.

They also propose to increase the rate in Corban’s Upper car park and Abbey Street from 50c to 70c or €2 for three hours.

“We are adding the Fair Green car park, Kilcullen Road past St Corban’s Place for all day parking which up to now has been catered for in Corban’s Lower and Heddermans. The rate per hour is proposed to increase from 40 to 50 cents. The rate per day is €3. Over 100 people are paying on a monthly basis and this is proposed to go up from €30 to €35 a month or a new annual rate of €360.

The privately run multi storey car park charge is €5 a day and €45 a month.
