Explanatory leaflet for parking

NAAS, 8 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. Naas Twon Council is to distribute leaflets to every house in the town explaining the new parking Bye-Laws which come into force in early February 2002.

The draft parking Bye-Laws were unanimously adopted at December’s meeting of Naas UDC (now Naas Town Council).

In the debate, Cllr Anthony Egan was concerned over the lack of a Park and Ride facility to keep cars out of town. The Council plans to meet with management of Naas Race Course in the New Year with a view to having a Park and Ride facility there.

Cllr Pat O’Reilly suggested a new bus taking-off point at St Corban’s to reduce the number of cars leaving people off at the centre town bus stop.

“Where are those cars then going to park?” town clerk Declan Kirrane wanted to know. He felt there was no point in the Council putting a Park and Ride facility out of town if Bus Eireann would not provide a link to the town centre.

Cllr Pat McCarthy said more people should be encouraged to take the bus. But he pointed out the danger to people getting off the buses in the dark on the Dublin Road. He said private bus operators could help with the Park and Ride facility bringing people back into the town to work.

New signs on all seven approach roads to the town will inform motorists of the new Parking Bye-Laws. Signs will also be erected where pay parking is in operation.

Declan Kirrane said there will be a short period of grace to allow people get used to the new arrangements.
