Naas to get private Medical Centre?

NAAS 15 January 2003: A planning application for a combined centre involving doctors, dentists, physiotherapists and other medical-related facilities is likely to be brought before Naas town councillors in the near future.

That was a teasing comment from Cllr Willie Callaghan during a discussion on whether the council should be considering providing some kind of central facility for local doctors.

The issue had been raised by Cllr Charlie Byrne, who said a local doctor had discussed with him the need for such a facility, which would allow all local doctors to 'work together'.

Cllr Mary Glennon noted that doctors were more interested in 'running a commercial enterprise' and that it was a Health Board matter for the provision of health centres.

Cllr Callaghan also said it wasn't the business of the council to be providing premises for medical professionals.

Mayor Timmy Conway asked that the doctor who had spoken to Cllr Byrne should get together with his colleagues and 'make a submission'.
