Road out of Naas 'dangerous and dirty'

17 December 2003: The dangerous and dirty state of the Newbridge Road out of Naas to the roundabout, due to pipe laying, has been described as ‘a death trap’ and ‘an accident waiting to happen’.

At last night’s December meeting of Naas Town Council, Cllr Willie Callaghan demanded action be taken before someone was killed on the road.

“The road is left in an atrocious condition during the day and at night the warning bollards are not even lit up,” he said. He added he wanted the town engineer to listen to his complaint ‘so he might learn something about it’. “Someone’s going to be killed there if there are not proper precautions,” he warned.

Mayor Cllr Pat O’Reilly agreed saying ‘that road is an absolute nightmare, day and night’. He said plastic warning cones have no reflectors because they are covered with dirt. “It would appear no Health & Safety people are inspecting it,” he said.

Cllr Timmy Conway agreed ‘it’s not cleaned up properly’.
