NAAS, 15 October: by Brian Byrne. A £20,000 Secondary School Bursary initiated by Naas Credit Union will provide one student each year from Naas with £1,000 a year for three years of third-level education. The Bursary, open to 6th Year students from the three Primary Schools in Naas, was announced at a Press Night last Thursday.

The Credit Union also launched its new corporate logo and its website. The logo was designed by Valerie Hughes, who won the £1,000 competition among members held to get a logo design. Her crown shaped logo represents Naas as the meeting place of the Kings, and incorporates its people, church, Town Hall with the clock, and houses.

In the last year, Naas Credit Union has also provided funding to a number of other Naas organisations, including £6,000 to Naas Athletic Club, £10,000 towards the refurbishment of the Moat Club, £6,000 to the 4th Kildare Scout Unit in Naas towards the cost of its recently-refurbished Den, and £1,200 to the Millennium Project of An Scoil Linbh Iosa.

Naas Credit Union has enjoyed phenomenal growth over the past ten years going from £3.5m in assets 1991 to £30.5m today.
