Naas Town Council passes Budget

NAAS 08 January 2003: Naas Town Council last night unanimously adopted its Draft Budget for 2003, with an increase of 5 per cent in the commercial rates. The Budget represents a total gross expenditure of E6.6 million including the County Charge of E1.3 million, and represents an increase of just over 11 per cent on 2002.

The County Charge, the amount payable to Kildare County Council in respect of the Naas portion of countywide services delivered by KCC, increased by over 10 per cent on that paid in 2002.

Naas Town Council received a 17.2 per cent increase in its grant from the Local Government Fund in 2003, to E968,540.

For 2003, Naas Town Council expects to receive incomes of E 3.4 million from commercial rates, E540,000 from pay parking, E298,612 from house rentals, and E424,000 from commercial water charges.

Naas town clerk Declan Kirrane said the rate increase was considerably less than that which other town councils and local authorities were seeking. The meeting heard that Kildare County Council will be seeking an increase in the region of 7.5 per cent.

The Budget was proposed by Cllr Charlie Byrne and seconded by Cllr Pat O'Reilly.
