Ideas suggested for 'facelifting' rundown area

NAAS AREA, 11 July 2002: by Brian Byrne. A blight on the countryside could soon be in for a facelift thanks to a 38,000 euro allocation under the ‘Parks’ fund available to the Naas Area Committee of Kildare County Council.

Besides the county administrative town, the Naas Area takes in Kill, Sallins and Kilcullen.

Ray Bonar of Kildare County Council had a few suggestions to make as to where the money could be used. The proposals included the grassy area on the bend of the Kilcullen-Naas road outside Esmondale estate, which would involving kerbing; filling in the old dump at Sallins, providing a path and seating area and planting trees; and the entrance road to Naas at Maudlins, where an interchange is planned.

He sought direction from the local area councillors on each proposal and asked for their suggestions.

He said the idea is to help improve the visual impression of an amenity area and have use of the space provided.

Mr Bonar said the preference was for one major project to allow ‘something substantial’ to be done. He was against using open space within a housing estate for the project.
