Stagg to raise school delay issue with VEC CEO

MAYNOOTH, 15 October: by Trish Whelan. Deputy Emmet Stagg has again raised the question of the required extension to Maynooth Post Primary School with the Minister for Education.

The Minister in his response has indicated that the developed sketch scheme in relation to the extension is still awaited from Co Kildare VEC.

The Deputy stated that Co Kildare VEC was requested last May to submit the developed sketch scheme and he was disappointed that it had not been submitted to date. Given the fact that the school as built to cater for 630 pupils and has at present over 750 pupils, Deputy Stagg indicated that the required information should have been submitted by now.

He stated that he would contact the CEO of Co Kildare VEC with a view to establishing the reason for the delay.

Deputy Stagg has blasted the continued delay in sanctioning the extension to Scoil Dara Post Primary School in Kilcock where over 800 pupils attend a school built to cater for 550 pupils. He said he would continue to pressure Education Minister Michael Woods TD in relation to the early authorisation of the acceptance of a tender for the work.
