Call for more playground funding

MAYNOOTH, 12 July 2002: by Brian Byrne. Maynooth-based councillor John McGinley has called on Kildare County Council to revise General Development Levies in order to cater for the provision of children’s and teenager playgrounds in towns where there is a demand for such facilities. He has submitted a motion for the council to consider the matter.

“The Council opened its first children’s playground in Newbridge at the end of June,” he says. “As a result of a previous motion from me it is Council policy ‘that the Council works with local communities in order to provide children’s playgrounds in towns where there is a demand for such facilities’.

The Maynooth Development Plan states that public children’s playgrounds will be provided at the Harbour Field and at the new public park at Carton Avenue. The passing of Cllr. McGinley’s new motion will ensure that funding will be available for playgrounds throughout the county.
