Hope for move on Geraldine Hall, Harbour Field

MAYNOOTH, 10 January 2002: by Brian Byrne. Kildare's county secretary has been asked to meet with officials of Maynooth Development Association in order to outline various options open for Geraldine Hall and Harbour Field, and to 'move matters onwards'.

At a recent meeting of the area councillors, it was agreed that Kildare County Council would agree to the request of the owner of these properties and have them transferred to public ownership.

"We agreed to take this step in order to speed up the process, as trying to do everything in the one package was holding up progress," says Cllr John McGinley. "The next step will be agreeing on a leasing arrangement for the community of Maynooth."

According to Cllr Catherine Murphy (left), Mary Cullen, Secretary of the Field Group, is to be contacted 'to iron outstanding issues'. "Hopefully, the legal process will move at that point," she said. "Grants for the development of the facilities as amenities are available from the Council, the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation, and the Department of Arts Heritage, Gaeltacht and The Islands."
