MAYNOOTH & COUNTY HALL, 8 November: by Brian Byrne. The Amended Draft Maynooth Development Plan 2001 was adopted unanimously at the Kildare County Council Meeting on 5th November. It was proposed by Cllr John McGinley and seconded by Cllr Paul Kelly.

Among the provisions of the plan are: 10 acres of land be provided for the GAA; 10 acres of land be provided for the Soccer Club; 8 acres of land be provided for the schools for playing pitches; 5 acres be provided for a new Gael Scoil; a 53 acre public park be developed at Carton Avenue and a 7 acre public park at Carton Court/Greenfield Drive.

A 150 acres Residential Zoning is also proposed; along with ring roads to take traffic out of the centre of town, with the new road to service the proposed new houses off the Moyglare Road to be put in place before the houses are built; no development to take place in Newtown until flood relief measures are in place.
