Councillor to ask hard questions on Maynooth development

MAYNOOTH 15 January 2003: A number of queries on a major development proposed for Moyglare Road in Maynooth are to be asked by local representative Cllr John McGinley, at the Leixlip Area Meeting planned for 17 January.

A planning application has been lodged by Mycete Construction for 538 residential dwelling units, three local shops, and facilities including a creche on Satchwells land on the Moyglare Road.

Cllr McGinley wants to know if the application is in compliance with the Maynooth Development Plan in terms of the wish to the route of the new road between Moyglare Road and the Meath County Boundary.

The plan dictates that 'no new development will be permitted on lands zoned “New Residential “ in Mariaville (off the Moyglare Road) pending the completion of this road. Vehicular access from lands zoned for “New Residential” in this area will only be permitted to access onto the new road, not the Moyglare Rd. Pedestrian and cyclist access from the new development onto the Moyglare Rd. will be permitted however'.

He is also asking if development levies will be imposed to enable Meath County Council to upgrade their section of the road to Kildare Bridge, and will development levies be imposed to help fund the proposed North Kildare Swimming Pool Complex?

"Are development levies being imposed to help fund other major infrastructure in Maynooth such as Bond Bridge, Ring Road from Blacklion to Straffan Road?" Cllr McGinley also asks, and he also has queries on whether the “Community Gain” 18 acres been handed over to the GAA and the Schools in the locality?
Other questions relate to how the 20% Social and Affordable Housing rerquirement is being addressed and whether a Children’s Playground is being provided in line with Council Policy following the passing of his own motion at the Meeting of the Council on 21 October 2002?

"Unless I get satisfactory answers to these questions, I will be proposing that the application be rejected," he warns.
