Objections to development

07 October 2003: Fears of flooding, visual obtrusion and a density that would in effect lead to an 'urban sprawl' are key elements in an objection to a proposed development at Boycetown, Kilcock.

The development, proposed by Merlon Developments Limited, comprises 454 dwellings, including three 3-storey blocks of 180 apartments and duplex units.

The objection from local TD Emmet Stagg and Labour council candidate Chris Rowland also cited the decision of the Government to shelve plans for two new local primary schools as leaving a 'serious deficiency' in the number of places available for pupils in Kilcock.

The objection says local residents are concerned that the development is on a floodplain for the Rye river and is 'premature' pending works to be carried out by Kildare County Council.

The objectors also say that 3-storey buildings would be 'out of character' with existing housing developments in the area and would detract from the rural nature of the area.
