Lyric slots for Mae Leonard

09 October 2003: Naas writer Mae Leonard is broadcasting on Lyric FM's 'The Quiet Quarter' for the week beginning 18 October.

The slot at 10.45 each morning is, as she puts it herself, 'like a Sunday Miscellany all to myself'.

The broadcasts will include reminiscences and historical pieces, of the kind which Mae has been broadcasting on 'Sunday Miscellany' for many years.

Meanwhile, a fictional piece by Mae centred at the Rath of Mullamasc in 1577 has been accepted for a textbook at Toronto University.

The piece - entitled 'Scribe' - is of Celtic interest, and was sent in response to an invitation for such pieces for the syllabus at the Department of Celtic Studies at the university.

Back home, Mae has also had the text of one of her 'Sunday Miscellany' pieces included in the curriculum for the Junior Cert next year.

Entitled 'Holding Court', it is based on Mae's own childhood recollection of the famous Angela McCourt, the key character of the book 'Angela's Ashes'.
